Past Continuous Tense in Hindi
‘Past Continuous Tense’ को हिंदी में ‘अपूर्ण भूत काल’ अथवा ‘भूत अपूर्ण काल’ कहते हैं। इस Tense में उपयोग होने वाले वाक्यों से हम यह अनुमान लगा सकते हैं की कोई कार्य जो भूत काल में चल रहा था और जो कुछ समय बाद पूरा हो गया था।
इस tense के द्वारा हम यह जान सकते है की भूत काल स्थिति में किया जाने वाला कार्य उस समय चल रहा था। Past Continuous Tense को हम अंग्रेजी में Past Imperfect Tense भी कहते हैं।
Past Continuous Tense की पहचान
‘Past Continuous Tense’ को हम किस तरह पहचान सकते हैं?
अगर हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में ‘रहा था’, ‘रही थी’, ‘रहे थे’ आदि शब्द आते हैं तो उस वाक्य को हम Past Continuous sentence (अपूर्ण भूत वाक्य) कह सकते हैं।
Past Continuous Tense के अंग्रेजी वाक्यों में helping verb ‘was / were’ का उपयोग किया जाता है। और इस tense वाले वाक्यों में जो verb का प्रयोग होता है वह verb का fourth form होता है, यह भूतकाल में हो रहे कार्य के अपूर्णता को दर्शाता हैं।
Formula: Subject + was / were + verb (ing / fourth form) + Object.
Past Continuous Tense Examples in Hindi
- I was fishing beside the lake.
मैं झील के किनारे मछली पकड़ रहा था।
- We were playing too well.
हम बहुत अच्छा खेल रहे थे।
- She was going to the airport.
वह एयरपोर्ट जा रही थी।
- You were attending the classes.
आप क्लास अटेंड कर रहे थे।

Types of Past Continuous Tense in Hindi
Past Continuous Tense के वाक्यों के कुल तीन प्रकार होते हैं।
- Affirmative sentence (सकारात्मक वाक्य)
- Negative sentence (नकारात्मक वाक्य)
- Interrogative sentence (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य)
Affirmative sentence
‘Affirmative sentence’ of Past Continuous tense अपूर्ण भूत काल के सामान्य सकारात्मक वाक्य है जो भूत काल में हो रहे किसी कार्य के सकारात्मक तरीके से होने का संदेश देते हैं।
Affirmative sentence की रचना:
Formula: Subject + was / were + Verb (ing) + object.
Examples,
- He was writing a letter.
वह पत्र लिख रहा था।
- Ramesh was eating his lunch.
रमेश खाना खा रहा था।
- Sumit was playing cricket.
सुमित क्रिकेट खेल रहा था।
- Driver was driving an ambulance.
चालक एंबुलेंस चला रहा था।
- She was staring at me.
वह मुझे घूर रही थी।
Negative Sentence
‘Negative sentence’ of Past Continuous tense अपूर्ण भूत काल के सामान्य नकारात्मक वाक्य है जो भूत काल में हो रहे किसी कार्य को नकारात्मक तरीके से दर्शाते हैं।
इन वाक्यों में जो helping verb है उनके साथ not का इस्तेमाल होता है जो नकारात्मकता को दर्शाता हैं।
Negative sentence की रचना:
Formula: Subject + was / were + not + Verb (ing) + object.

वह पत्र नहीं लिख रहा था।
- Ramesh was not eating his lunch.
रमेश दोपहर का भोजन नहीं कर रहा था।

Interrogative sentence
‘Interrogative sentence’ of Past Continuous tense अपूर्ण भूत काल के सामान्य प्रश्नात्मक वाक्य है जो भूत काल में हो रहे किसी कार्य के प्रश्नात्मकता को व्यक्त करते हैं।
प्रश्नात्मक वाक्य helping verbs से शुरू होता है और अंत में Question mark से ख़त्म होता है जो प्रश्नात्मकता को दर्शाता है।
Interrogative sentence की रचना:
Formula: Was / were + Subject + Verb (ing) + object + ?
Was / were + Subject + not + Verb (ing) + object + ?
